From having his playing career cut short due to a hand injury to becoming one of the most important men in South African cricket, Enoch Nkwe had great ups and great downs all within the age of 36. That was when - after a disastrous 2019 World Cup campaign - that CSA turned to him to take up the position of Proteas team director on an interim basis.

Nkwe took to cricket as an 11-year old, his work good enough to earn a scholarship to St Stithians College in Johannesburg, and although he had to give up playing at 26, he found a new lease of life coaching teams and winning championships. Nkwe steered the Jozi Stars to the Mzansi Super League title in 2018 and was head coach of the Lions franchise when the national offer came calling. He has also worked at international level as assistant coach of the Netherlands.

A fan of Pep Guardiola, Nkwe went into a South Africa job that somewhat resembled a football manager's saying, "Just watching his growth over the years, having started coaching Barcelona, one of the biggest clubs in the world at the age of 37, it really did motivate me that, if he can do it, it is possible."
