Rhodesian-born Warren Carne was raised in Bulawayo, he completed his schooling in neighbouring South Africa where he played most of his cricket for the Potchefstroom Dorp and Potchefstroom Boys High School Old Boys sides however during University holidays in 1998 turned out for the Macdonalds Club of Bulawayo in the Zimbabwe Dunlop National League. Alongside Scottish ODI player Ryan Watson coached the Potch Boys U15 schools cricket side. A talented cyclist, too, representing Zimbabwe at Mountain Biking at the 2007 UCI African Mountain-Bike Championships that were held in Windhoek, Namibia. In the past he has worked as a freelance cricket writer having had articles published by Cricinfo.
